100 Anniversary 1997-1998
A two part write-up. Part one covers the 1997 centennial of the arrival
of a "ton of gold" onto the dock of Seattle, which started the Klondike
gold rush. Part two covers the July 1998 centennial of the death of
Soapy Smith in Skagway, Alaska.
Soapy's Wakes An
annual Party (July 8) held on the night Soapy was killed. Two are
actually held; one in Skagway, Alaska and the other at the Magic Castle
in Hollywood, California. Wakes of the Past Photographs, stories of past Soapy wakes. Grave Markers There were five markers over Soapy's grave in all. In Chronological order. Art of a Gunfight The different artistic interpretations of the Reid/Smith gunfight. Soapy's Weapons Real and supposed Soapy owned pistols, rifles, and gambling equipment.
